Hey! I’m Isi and I’m a 2018 intake on the HR stream. I studied Business and Management at University and came onto the graduate scheme after I graduated. Having now completed my first placement, I thought the perfect first blog would be giving a brief overview of my experience of how it went to give you guys a bit of an idea of what you may be involved with if, like me, you are on the HR stream. I started my placement in the Staff Engagement and Wellbeing Team. Here I undertook projects aroun...

Hi everyone,This is a very odd blog for me to write, as it is my first since I left the scheme. In my two years as a HR trainee I have done so much, and changed as both a person and a professional. I have led on employee relations investigations, and spoke at conferences. I have run meetings with Chief Executives in attendance and designed Trust wide employability schemes. One of the questions I’m often asked by applicants for the scheme is what an average day or week looks like on the scheme. It’s a bizarrely difficult question to answer as genuinely no day or week is the same - but in this blog I thought I’d give you an overview of what I’m up to this week to give you an idea.So on Monday I took the train to Leicester where I met the rest of my HR cohort for lunch. Sounds lovely yes? It was… but unfortunately we didn’t meet up just for lunch, we had an exam a...

One of my biggest worries when joining the scheme back in September was how on earth I was going to balance a full-time job and 2 post-grads with my home life. As an extrovert - my friends and social life are very important to me and my wellbeing, plus I have a husband to spend time with too! However I’m very happy to report that despite the pressures of exams, essays, travel, and work; my social and home life hasn’t changed negatively at all. To make this better, my work life is also really...

So we’re into 2019 and I’m officially stuck into the scheme and my first placement which means I’ve just about got my head around how things work now. The first 3 months have been a complete whirlwind - filled with 20 days of orientation, various inductions, university days, assignments, EGA residential, experiential learning residential, IAG’s, ALS groups… and that’s before you even look at work on placement! So I thought it might be handy to have a blog about what you can expect in your fir...
